WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – This summer, fantasy and folklore collide as Winnipeg-based author and Viking reenactor Z. F. Sigurdson officially launches The Veiled Sagas, a four-book series of short fiction blending swords and sorcery with the surreal challenges of the modern world. The launch event will be hosted at Raven’s End Books: The Horror Bookshop (1859 Portage Ave.) on July 8th, 2025, at 6:00 PM, with special guest S. M. Beiko.
Originally self-published between 2020 and 2025, The Veiled Sagas includes the collections Bloodied, Black as Night, The Wrong Side, and Wild Things. Each book explores what happens when the boundaries between the everyday world and the mythic collapse—where vengeance-seeking outcasts, techno-mages, monsters, and reluctant heroes struggle against forces they can’t always understand.

Drawing on themes from dark fantasy, horror, westerns, and even kaiju fiction, these genre-blending stories are for readers who crave imaginative, gritty tales that challenge the boundaries of reality. Each book is available for purchase through Amazon or at Raven’s End Books.
A graduate of the University of Manitoba in Politics and History, Z. F. Sigurdson has worked as a journalist, cook, and storyteller. Now, he’s merging his love for myth and history by heading to Reykjavik this fall, where he’ll delve deeper into Viking studies—both academically and experientially.
The launch will be hosted by multi-genre creator S. M. Beiko, known for her work as an artist, author and editor. The evening will feature readings, discussion, and reflections on the intersection of fantasy writing and historical storytelling. You can find him before he leaves on his saga at the Icelandic Festival in Gimli happening August 1-4 where he’ll selling his wares and telling his stories.
